Group Travel Immersion

Are you an adventurous language learner seeking a unique and rewarding travel experience?

We've got news for you.

Travel Immersion
Starting in 2014, Comprehensive will be compiling our vast experience teaching foreign languages into exciting and unique travel immersion offerings for groups. The concept is simple--learn as much as possible in as short a period of time in a wonderful international destination. The destinations will be slightly off the beaten path with exclusive opportunities for using the language and experiencing the local cultures. In addition to short cultural day-trips, the group will stay in one base location, enjoying upscale accomodations in the cultural center of the destination, providing a rewarding and memorable experience.

Background
For over 30 years, Comprehensive has provided high-end language training services to learners seeking the best of the best. We've refined our processes and techniques and have continually upgraded our training tools and materials. Our students have benefitted and have continually proven that they can exceed expectations and objectives.

Details

Each course will begin at one of our U.S. locations for 3 days of intense language training. This period of time will be used to build fundamentals, introduce the group to the instructor that will be travelling with them, and getting to know the other students in the group. Each group is limited to 8 total students. The training day will include 4 hours of individual instruction and 1 hour of group instruction. In the evening of the 3rd day in the U.S., the group will depart together, including the instructor(s), to the destination.

After settling in at the destination, the group will have a half-day to relax and then the process of learning continues. While at the destination, the daily schedule will include up to 10 hours of instruction and cultural activities (done only in the target language). The majority of classroom instruction at the destination will be group-based.

Typical Schedule

A typical day at the destination may be:

7:00am - 8:00am Breakfast and informal tutoring
8:00am - 12:00pm Formal Group Classroom Instruction
12:00pm - 1:00pm Lunch
1:00pm - 6:00pm Group Cultural Activity
After 6:00pm Dinner and nightlife on your own

Cultural Activities

Cultural Activities are carefully selected and designed with the following criteria:

  1. Interactive.
    • Offer students an opportunity to communicate in the target language with native speakers.
  2. Authentic.
    • Engage in activities that reflect the local culture and customs.
  3. Unique.
    • Experience the destination as an immersed learner as opposed to a tourist.
  4. Fun.
    • Learning is best accomplished when doing something enjoyable.

Examples of cultural activities include:

  • Shopping at a local market and bazaar
  • Touring an artisan factory
  • Wine tasting
  • Cooking class
  • Dance lessons

Language Learning Objectives and Expectations

At the end of your training, you can expect to have achieved a great deal of learning and capabilities in the target language.

For beginner-level groups, the main goal is for the student to be able to communicate comfortably in basic dialogues using basic everyday vocabulary.

The main focus will be on conversation (listening/speaking comprehension) and building a basic vocabulary. Topics covered will be everyday activities/situations (introductions, shopping, directions, etc.). The focus is on speaking, as the main objective is to have the students speaking comfortably, although students will be introduced to the written language.

Short-duration sessions (8 days) include a total of approximately 65 hours of instruction.

Long-duration sessions (17 days) include a total of approximately 120 hours of instruction.

For comparison purposes, a typical college semester includes about 24-36 hours of instruction.

Deposits and Payment

To reserve your spot in a group, a deposit of 25% of the total cost is required. Final payment is due 30 days prior to the start date.

In the event of a cancellation of the trip by us, the deposit will be refunded. In the event that you need to cancel your spot in the group, the deposit will not be refunded. Travel insurance can be obtained, which may cover the deposit amount, depending on the reason for the cancellation.
